All children should be well

All children and young people have the right to good food, clean water, and other things needed to grow and be well. This is stated in the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

It is your parents’ responsibility to make sure you are well, or another adult who takes care of you. If the adults can’t manage this, they should receive help from society, like social services. When you are sick, you have the right to receive good care, for example, at a hospital.

Some children and young people can’t live with their parents. Is that the case for you? It could be due to problems in the family or because an adult is not feeling well.

Children who don’t live with their parents still have the same right to be well.

If you live in a place like a youth home, the staff should be kind to you. You should also be able to keep in touch with your family.

If you are a refugee and have come to Sweden, you have the right to protection and help. It doesn’t matter if you came here alone or with an adult.

When adults make decisions about you, they should do what is best for you. This applies to both your parents and other adults, like those working in social services or other places.

Every child has the right to live. Therefore, there should be no death penalty or life imprisonment for anyone under 18. The Convention on the Rights of the Child also states that children should not have to starve or suffer from infectious diseases. Sweden should also do its best to ensure that no young people take their own lives.
