You have the right to speak your mind

The Convention on the Rights of the Child states that you have the right to say what you want and form your own opinions, as long as you don’t break the law or say something that harms someone else.

A person can express their thoughts in many different ways. Some people share their views on social media. Others join a political party or express themselves through music.

You have the right to speak your mind, even if an adult doesn’t think it’s important. But you don’t have to have an opinion. No one can force you to reveal what you think or feel about something.

Adults Should Listen to You

The Convention on the Rights of the Child clearly states that you have the right to influence things that concern you. If someone is making a decision that affects you, you have the right to say what you want. You should be taken seriously. Adults are required to find out your opinion and consider it.

You should have more say as you get older. But it is always the adult who is responsible.

Even young children have the right to express their opinions and be taken seriously. Adults who talk to children should adapt to the child’s age.

It’s also important to remember that you have the right to think whatever you want. You can believe in any god you choose or no god at all. You should be able to decide for yourself what is right and wrong, for example, when it comes to politics.

You have the right to join a club or group that focuses on something that interests you. You should also be able to start a club, like a gaming club, if you want. Your parents (or the adult responsible for you) should help you if you need it.
